In recent days, important news has emerged on the plot of Gladiator 2: let’s try to take stock of the situation on everything we know about the long-awaited sequel directed by Ridley Scott arriving in theaters worldwide in November.

First of all, let’s start by saying that, contrary to what was previously anticipated, in Gladiator 2 Paul Mescal will not be Lucio Verusthe grandson of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) seen in the original film with Russell Crowe: in recent months all the news on the film (even some interviews with Ridley Scott) had pointed in this direction, but to what extent it seems the protagonist of Gladiator 2 will be a noble worker from Rome who will have no connection with the previous Emperor’s family.

In the film, Paul Mescal’s character is the protégé of the character played by Pedro Pascal, who will be the young hero’s stepfather at the center of the story: the plot apparently will start in a similar way to that of the original film, given that thanks to a recent test-screening it was revealed that one day the protagonist’s wife and mother are killed, an event that will push him to go to Rome in search of revenge against those who were guilty of this terrible crime. To do this he will have to fight in the Colosseum in order to reach the top of the capital’s food chain, where the villain-puppeteer played by Denzel Washington is located. As for the duels in the arena, however, we are talking about brutal and very entertaining fights with historical re-enactments that also include platoons of killer monkeys, rhino-riding warriors and even shark tanks.

Gladiator 2 will be released on November 22, 2024: while waiting for a trailer, find out what the current duration of Gladiator 2 is.
