Richard Curtis, already behind rom-coms such as Love Actually and Notting Hill, is the author of a successful series of children’s books which will be made into an animated film! It’s That Christmas, of which we show you the first images!
That Christmas is the new animated film, produced by Netflixwhich marks the directorial debut of Simon Otto and is the adaptation of the children’s book series written by Richard Curtis – here in the role of screenwriter – author of rom-com hits such as Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill.

Based on the series of works for children The Empty Stocking, Snow Day and That Christmasthe film has been announced as early as 2022 and will mark the directorial debut of Simon Otto. The latter, however, is not new to animated films, having contributed to the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, and regarding the film he declared:
“Becoming an animator had been on my Christmas bucket list since I was a child and watching animated films was one of my family’s main Christmas traditions. I could never have imagined that one day I would have the chance to direct a Christmas film written by the one and only richard curtis and collaborate with some of the most talented and iconic voice actors”
The film is expected to debut on Netflix in time for the next holidays and the voice cast who will dub the characters in the original language has already been announced. It is a cast of big names, which includes actors of the caliber of Brian Cox, Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker And Bill Nighy and will play respectively Santa Claus, Mrs. Trapper, Mrs. Williams and Bill, all inhabitants of an enchanting seaside town in which things will start to go wrong at Christmas.
About collaboration with Simon Otto And Richard Curtisalready behind some hits such as Notting Hill, Love Actually and Yesterday, the spokesperson for Netflix he has declared:
“It’s a film of firsts, marking Curtis’ first animation project and Otto’s directorial debut.”
Furthermore, regarding adaptation Curtis he added that it is a “extraordinary adventure” for him, because this is his first animated film and to see his world come to life in this way”goes beyond his wildest dreams”. Thanks to Netflix the first ones are available Images Of That Christmaswhich is expected to be released within the next year.
