Quentin Tarantino’s farewell to directing could be more bitter than expected. The American press, including Deadline magazine, claims that the director “simply changed his mind” and gave up filming The Movie Critic, what, as he himself announced, should have been his tenth and last film. The director revealed some details about the film last May at Cannes.
His latest film would focus on a true story, dating back to that real-life apprenticeship that Tarantino recognizes as his only film school, when for work he refilled pornographic magazines into a vending machine. «California in 1977, starring a particularly cynical, witty and brilliant film critic who had not managed to find editorial space except in a porn magazine», this should be the plot according to the foreign press.

Tarantino had also given up on The Hateful Eight, when the plot of the film was stolen and spread online. But the script, read at a charity event, liked the fans and the film was made anyway.
In these hours, however, many are recalling the eighth film, by the 61-year-old director from Knoxville, blocked when an actor violated the constraint not to let anyone read it, not even his own agent; that script soon ended up on all the desks of Hollywood and, above all, online. At that point he felt betrayed and, had it not been for a reading organized for charity which received much praise, perhaps Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film would not have been that. At this point all that remains is to wait to understand how one of the most important directors in the history of cinema, certainly among the most loved, will decide to end his luminous career.
The indiscretion
Tarantino would not have been at all convinced of the quality of the screenplay, considering it not worthy of a film which in his intentions should put an end to his career as a director by giving him a triumphant exit. In the last few hours, however, a surprising indiscretion has made its way, relaunched by the journalist Borys Kit – a well-known writer for a prestigious entertainment magazine – in a series of posts on his X profile.
There are many rumors in the American press. To give you a summary we can say that initially, Tarantino’s film was supposed to be called The Movie Criticc but unbeknownst to many, the director «changed his mind by deciding to write a different film, connected to Once upon a time in…Hollywood. And that’s why Brad Pitt’s name emerged. According to sources, Pitt was set to reprise his role as Cliff Booth. Although the sources did not specify whether it would be a prequel or a sequel. Then the about-face: in recent weeks he would have changed his mind again, deciding to put this project aside too. According to what emerged from the sources, he is now “decided to work on a new screenplay”.
