The mystery of the waste from the Sorrento peninsula present in some abandoned industrial warehouses in the countryside of Foggia. The complaint was made during a report from Ascoli Satriano – a territory in Puglia with a strong agricultural vocation where mainly wheat is produced – broadcast during the other evening’s episode of Striscia la Notizia. The images show huge piles of ecoballs piled up inside buildings.
Zooming in on one of the canvas bags that wraps some of the materials, the writing Piano di Sorrento can clearly be read. Hence the author of the report’s hypothesis that it is industrial waste also coming from the Sorrento coast and disposed of illegally by depositing it overnight inside abandoned buildings. The president of the local Coldiretti section, interviewed by Striscia’s correspondent, speaks bluntly of “ecomafia”.
We at SorrentoPress asked the director of Penisolaverde spa, the company that manages waste collection and disposal in Piano di Sorrento and also in Massa Lubrense and Sorrento, for explanations. “I have seen the video several times, that sheet is certainly not an urban waste transport document – clarifies Luigi Cuomo -.
