One of the most beloved aspects of the wizarding world is the Quidditchthe broomstick race where Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) excels. 3How Witches and Wizards Play Quidditch in “Harry Potter“?

Without a doubt, fans are well aware that the sport of Quidditch – in which two teams compete for victory while flying on fast broomsticks – has its origins in the wizarding world. The rules require each team to play with seven players and score points by having their pursuers throw a red ball, called a Quaffle, through one of the three hoops of the opposing goal. The three circles are guarded by a Guardian, who has the task of preventing points from being scored against his team. Aside from the flying, the sport seems quite familiar, but it’s the quidditch jokers that elevate it to a whole new level.

Before the fans of Harry Potter were exposed to betrayal and tragic deaths, things were much simpler. When two teams battle for goals, there are black Bludgers flying around, aiming to knock the pursuers off their brooms. But these offensive players are not left unprotected, as each team has Hitters who use their bats to fend off the Bludgers. All this happens while one player from each team is engaged in a separate secondary competition: catching the Golden Snitch. The Golden Snitch is a chaotic, fast-moving winged ball that Seekers compete to catch. Once the Golden Snitch is captured, the team earns another 150 points (compared to 10 points for a normal goal) and the game ends.

From the beginning of the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s StoneHarry joins the Quidditch team Gryffindor as a Seeker, becoming the youngest student to do so, and all by accident. During one of his first broomstick lessons, Harry, like the natural hero he is, defends the honor of his new friend Neville (Matthew Lewis) while Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) steals a magical trinket from him. Harry’s skill with the broom, flying through the sky and snatching the stolen prize from Draco, catches the attention of Professor McGonagall (Maggie Smith), who realizes that Harry possesses the same Seeker abilities that his father had.
