Dune 3: Denis Villeneuve is writing the movie ‘right now’

Dunes 3 it became a highly anticipated sequel after the way it ended Dune: Part Two (here is our review). While the latter continues to hit the box office all over the world, the director Denis Villeneuve is working diligently on the next chapter. He recently provided an update on the progress of Dunes 3currently in pre-production.

In a meeting with the New York Times, Denis Villeneuve answered all the fans’ questions about Dune: Part Two. He also talked about Dunes 3confirming that he is writing the adaptation of Dune Messiah”just now“.

When asked about the equation between Paul and Chani after the finale of part two, which saw Chani abandon Paul in anger, Villeneuve replied: “That anger is tremendous. I don’t want to reveal what I’ll do with the third film. I know exactly what to do. I’m writing this right now. But there’s a lot of irons in the fire and I’m very excited about this decision“.

Villeneuve’s response suggests that it will take some time before that Dunes 3 arrive in theaters. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the director will take on the live-action adaptation of the novel by Annie Jacobsen,”Nuclear War: A Scenario“, before Dunes 3.

Dune 3 will adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah

Previously, speaking to Time magazine, Villeneuve confirmed that Dunes 3 will be based on the second novel in the Frank Herbert series, “Dune Messiah“. The director divided the first novel into two halves to adapt his two films on Dunes. But the third Dune movie will cover Dune Messiah in its entirety.

We’ll see in the film Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Dave Bautista as the Beast. Rabban, Léa Seydoux in the role of Lady Margot, Stellan Skarsgård in the role of the Baron e Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV. The film is currently available to rent digitally and will be available for purchase on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on May 14, 2024.
