Debuts streaming on Netflix on May 19th Golden Kamuythe film that brings to the screen the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Satoru Noda which is one of the best sellers of all time, winner of the Manga Taishō in 2016 and the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award.
Set in the early twentieth century, on the northernmost island of the five largest in the Japanese archipelago, that of Okkaido, the story of the film is that of a veteran of the Russian-Japanese conflict, a girl from the Ainu people and some others characters who are all looking for a gold treasure hidden on the island by an escaped prisoner.
This film, which follows an initial adaptation into an anime series, was directed by the director Shigeaki Kubo, while Tsutomu Kuroiwa wrote the script based on the comic. In the roles of the two main protagonists we find Kento Yamazaki and Anna Yamada.

In the noble and vast land of Hokkaido, in northern Japan, in the tumultuous early twentieth century Saichi Sugimoto is a hero of the Russo-Japanese War who earned the nickname “immortal” for the extraordinary war skills demonstrated on many battlefields, including the bloodiest of all: the 203 meter hill. Hoping to find a large sum of money for a particular purpose, he begins prospecting for gold in Hokkaido. There, Sugimoto learns of a large hoard of gold stolen from an Ainu tribe. The man who stole it, Noppera-Bo, hid it shortly before he was captured. He gave 24 of his fellow prisoners tattoos that, combined together, form a single code revealing the location of the gold, and then helped the prisoners escape. Around that time, Sugimoto is attacked by a wild brown bear and saved by an Ainu girl named Asirpa, whose father was killed by the man who stole the gold. Sugimoto, who wants to find gold, and Asirpa, who seeks revenge for her father, decide to team up. Another man is also on the trail of the treasure: Tokushiro Tsurumi, first lieutenant of the 7th Division of the Imperial Japanese Army. He conspires to conquer Hokkaido for the sake of his soldiers who risked their lives in the war but were left unrewarded, and he needs the gold to finance his military goals. Among the escaped prisoners is Toshizo Hijikata, the ruthless vice-commander of the Shinsengumi military police force who was thought to have died in the Boshin War. He and his former ally Shinpachi Nagakura search for gold to realize their ambitions. Sugimoto & Asirpa, the 7th Division, and Toshizo Hijikata all compete to strike it rich in the majestic wilderness of the north!
