In addition to Star Trek 4, which will be the last chapter of the reboot saga with Chris Pine, during CinemaCon Paramount Pictures announced another new film by Star Trekwhich will be a prequel.

During the Las Vegas event, Paramount unveiled its titles for 2025 and 2026, officially confirming plans to release a major Star Trek film during this period. Previously, it was reported that a new Star Trek film was in development, separate from the planned sequel to 2016’s Star Trek Beyond – the film’s reveal at CinemaCon has now officially confirmed that the project is in development. It should also be noted that since the film is currently untitled, it is listed as an untitled Star Trek Origin Story.

Also confirmed in the cast and crew are director Toby Haynes (Star Wars: Andor), writer Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and producer JJ Abrams. A brief outline was provided by Paramount, describing the project as “an origin story that takes place decades before the original 2009 Star Trek film”. This synopsis also offers definitive confirmation that the prequel is connected to the 2009 film and its two sequels, and therefore also to the aforementioned Star Trek 4 currently in development. However, given the timeline, one can expect it to follow un entirely new cast of charactersalthough there are likely to be references linking the film to the other Trek films.

The prequel to Untitled Star Trek is expected to be released in 2025 or 2026, but a release date has not yet been set. We remind you that the next film in the saga to be released will be Star Trek Section 31, which will arrive in streaming on Paramount+.
