Monte Croce Carnico Pass. Presidio to ask for the variant on the other side

3

«The statements of the technicians audited by the Commission in the Regional Council, the positions expressed by the Carinthian representatives and common sense indicate that the only possible solution is the crossing variant. Fedriga set aside once and for all the idea of the tunnel put forward by a majority councilor.” Thus the regional councilors of the Pact for Autonomy Massimo Moretuzzo and Giulia Massolino today (4 May, ed.) at Passo di Monte Croce Carnico, where the Pact for Autonomy organized a demonstration, with many participants, to raise awareness on the issue and urge the reopening of the interrupted road system, at which the regional councilors Massimo Mentil and Serena Pellegrino, and the mayor of Paluzza Luca Scrignaro were also present. «Insisting on the tunnel does nothing but fuel confusion even in international relations and delay the time for a definitive resolution of the problem – they say -. The regional administration must continue to restore the existing road system, as it has started to do, but must as soon as possible definitively set aside the tunnel hypothesis and proceed with the design of the variant on the other side of the pass by allocating the necessary resources”.

The landslide that swept away the road to the Monte Croce Carnico Pass has opened yet another wound in the mountain territory. The landslide event that occurred last December, if it hit the social and economic fabric of the But Valley with greater force, dealt a severe blow to the entire Carnic area, depriving it (in the eternal stalemate of the works on the Fella bridge) of another very important communication route. A situation of suffering that «certainly cannot be alleviated by the self-consoling proclamations issued by councilor Bini on tourism investments – comment Mirco Dorigo, Alex Mazzocato and Denis Baron of the Alto Friuli Autonomy Pact –. We ask the center-right majority that governs our Region to assume responsibility, starting from clarity on their choices and putting an end to the utterances of Councilor Mazzolini. Proceed in the best possible time with the safety of the old route for the purpose of a prompt reopening. We ask for a clear position against the tunnel option and for unambiguous and linear communication with the Austrian institutional partners. We also ask to proceed as soon as possible with the design of the variant on the other side of the pass, defining a collaboration agreement with ANAS through which the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region can have an active role in the authorization and implementation process of the work, if necessary also by contributing significantly from a financial point of view, thus speeding up the intervention times”, conclude the three autonomist exponents, summarizing the contents of a document distributed during the demonstration.
