In prison, after eight months of investigation, the driver who ran over and killed the chef Ponzo and his wife: the Carabinieri of the Palestrina Company have thus closed the circle of the investigation by arresting Anas Al Allam, the 45-year-old Moroccan resident of Labico (Colle Spina). According to what was ascertained, it was he who on the evening of October 10, 2023, was driving the Audi A6 that ran over the Renault Clio in which they were traveling Maurizio Ponzo e Alexandra Corradiboth 38 years old, killing them instantly.

In the very serious accident, which occurred on the Provincial Carchitti above the A1 bridge, the couple’s two children, aged 6 and 10, were also seriously injured, saved by their father’s instinct that acted as a shield for the little ones. A tragedy, which occurred less than a kilometre from Maurizio’s father’s house, where the family had spent the evening, which has thrown into despair both the community of Palestrina and that of Zagarolo, where the man worked as a chef in a well-known restaurant.
THE PROVE
The military executed the order issued by the investigating judge of the Tivoli Court, which ordered the 45-year-old to be held in prison on charges of road homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol. The judge’s order states that, according to the investigations conducted by the Tivoli Public Prosecutor’s Office and the San Cesareo Carabinieri, serious evidence of guilt has been gathered regarding the fact that the man was driving under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic substances. In particular, from the findings, it appears that the Audi, before the impact, was traveling at a speed of about 150 km/h (with a speed limit of 50 km/h) and invaded the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the victims’ car. The time that passed, from the evening of the accident to the arrest of the Moroccan, would also have been used to clearly define the roles of the two people who, at the time of the collision, were in the Audi, namely Anas Al Allam and Antonio S., 40 years old from Carchitti.
When help arrived, in fact, the two were out of the car and it was not clear who was driving at the time of the accident. What was taken for granted by the inhabitants of the hamlet of Carchitti was that the two men were known to spend a good part of the day drinking in some bar and, according to witnesses, it was likely that they had also had too much alcohol that evening. Lack of lucidity and recklessness that, most likely, were at the origin of the choice of the driver of the Audi to approach at great speed the car in front of him and, just above the bridge, suddenly swerve to the left to overtake without noticing the oncoming Clio, hit full and accelerating, as confirmed by the total lack of braking marks at the point of impact.
MOURNING
The pain of the loss of the beautiful couple, and the two little orphans, has not yet subsided. “No one will bring the two of them back to us,” comments Marco, a friend of the couple, “but I want to hope that the person responsible pays for what he did and that it is not, as often happens in Italy, the usual facade arrest that translates into a couple of weeks of house arrest and that’s it.” At the couple’s funeral, eight months ago, practically everyone was there to witness the love that the two had won in the community. Outside the church, to welcome the coffins, were banners from friends in tears with the words “Two angels flown to heaven too soon” and “You will live forever in our hearts.” And now, that the alleged person responsible for the double homicide is in prison, the town once again gathers around the family of Maurizio and Alessandra, and their sons Francesco and Matteo who are in everyone’s hearts. Also close to the grandparents who, as Don Franco Proietto also underlined on the occasion of the funeral, have had the most arduous task in these months, that of bearing the pain of the loss of a son and a daughter, still very young, and of “regenerating themselves as parents, with the fundamental help and closeness of the entire community”.
