When Kurt Cobain shot himself in the head on April 5, 1994, he became the media’s sacrificial lamb and changed the course of history forever.

Kurt Cobain

With the advent of the internet first and then social media, through the G8 in Genoa and September 11, a soundtrack is produced in which the underground becomes a genre, style and culture. In a word: indie. The thought under the surface seeks its own path to become common discourse, to create a new collective imagination without losing its original mission, that of being counterculture. However, something went wrong: the ideas that indie music carried did not have the desired outcome. From the sunset of the dreams of Generation X to the advent of Spotify that forever changes the approach to listening, this is a story that focuses on the ‘short twenty years’ 1994-2012, and does so through music: the story of a defeat or the foundations of a future rebirth?
