First Digital Control Tower, Technical Table Set Up at Palazzo Campanella

REGGIO CALABRIA The technical table organized by the Regional Council has been established in Palazzo Campanella, the seat of the Regional Council. Corecom Calabria aimed at the creation of the first Digital control tower (Tdc). Corecom itself announced it. «The digital control towers – it is stated in the note – represent an ambitious and innovative project inspired by the historic Saracen towers: as the ancient towers watched over the sea, defending the coasts from pirate attacks, the Digital Towers, in fact, will watch over cyberspace against the “pirates” of the network, safeguarding digital identity and protecting citizens from online threats. The meeting was attended by engineer Philip Muscatrepresenting the Municipality of Reggio Calabria; the mayor and deputy mayor of Botricello, Saverio Simone Puccio and Giovanna Puccio; the deputy mayor of Cassano allo Ionio, Anthony Mungo; the president of the municipal council of Villapiana, Joseph Guidatogether with the Education Councillor, Lorenza Shepherdand to the municipal technician, Max Damian Scuderiand the engineer Helmiro Tavolaro representing the Order of Engineers of Cosenza. The Technical Table discussed new digital technologies (Internet 3.0, metaverse, artificial intelligence and social networks) in the context of the objectives of digital literacy and the fight against educational poverty defined in the Corecom 2024 programming approved by the Regional Council and the Communications Guarantee Authority (Agcom). “During the meeting – the press release continues – several critical issues have emerged related to the use of new digital technologies: the risk of flattening of critical thinking among young people, the digital exclusion of vulnerable users and less well-off communities and the possibility of technological dependence, especially among minors. The importance of a conscious and correct use of technologies to mitigate these risks and promote inclusion and critical training was underlined. On the other hand, the potential identified by the Technical Table concerns the possibility of improving the quality of digital public services, making them more efficient and accessible; using artificial intelligence for the benefit of disadvantaged categories to reduce inequalities; enhancing local historical and cultural resources, creating new opportunities for tourism and heritage conservation; improving educational programs, promoting more inclusive learning and adequate to the needs of the contemporary digital world. Corecom Calabria expresses satisfaction with the broad participation and contributions receivedmarking an important step forward in the realization of the project”. “The Technical Table – concludes the note – unanimously shared the possibility of extending participation to other local authorities, administrations, Universities of Calabria and professional orders of architects and engineers, to ensure extensive participation that covers all the professional contributions requested in the expression of interest”.
