Today, the exact amount of loot taken Friday evening by robbers during the assault on the Vedetta 2 Mondialpol headquarters in Sassari, when they opened fire on the Carabinieri and the police, will emerge. Investigators from the Flying Squad and those responsible for the security institute are completing the count. At the moment, it is assumed that the robbery may have netted a sum in excess of 10 million euros.

Money that was not in the vault, which the robbers were unable to reach thanks to the security measures put in place as soon as the alarm went off, but in the counting room, where deliveries were being prepared for the following days and where there was they were the day’s retreats. Some 50 and 100 euro banknotes were found yesterday next to the van used by the armed commando to take away the loot and set on fire in the night between Saturday and Sunday under an overpass of state road 131, just outside Sassari.

The van, whose roof had been cut off by the bandits to allow the bags with the money taken from Mondialpol to be loaded more quickly, was seized by the Prosecutor’s Office and transported to a warehouse where it was analyzed by forensic experts. Meanwhile, the hunt continues for the commando composed of around 20 people, who fled towards the south. The searches are continuing throughout the central north of the island.
