The President of Veneto, Luca Zaia, announced today that he has sent an official note to the Government with which the Veneto Region requests the reopening of the negotiating table to achieve differentiated autonomy. “Let’s start again from where we left off,” said the governor. “We can immediately reactivate negotiations on the nine matters not subject to Lep, in 24 months on the other 14.”

Requests for greater autonomy were immediately put forward in the nine “non-lepizzable” subjects, namely: Organization of justice of the peace; International and EU relations of the Region; Foreign trade; Professions; Civil protection; Complementary and supplementary social security; Coordination of public finance and the tax system; Savings banks, rural banks, regional credit companies; Regional land and agricultural credit institutions.

In the letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, the governor asks to «add, for an initial investigation of the more complex attribution profiles», also the matters subject to the essential levels of services already covered by the 2018 pre-agreement: Policies of work, education, health, protection of the environment and the ecosystem.

It is difficult to establish the timing, but according to Zaia, “an agreement by the end of the year” on the Veneto region’s request for autonomy is conceivable. «It is a test for us, for the counterpart, for the majority and the opposition – observed the Venetian president -. We have a dossier for each subject and are ready to submit requests. We will also bring together the regional stakeholders’ council and take all the necessary steps. At this stage we have nine dossiers, we will try to understand the ideas of our counterpart.”
