Countdown to Murabilia’s Return

Love for plants returns to the forefront in Lucca with the 23rd edition of Murabilia: the market exhibition of quality gardening and green culture which on Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September brings together the best exhibitors and experts in the world of international gardening. Organized by Lucca Crea (the company that annually organizes the Lucca Comics & Games Festival) together with the Municipality of Lucca, it is set in the suggestive setting of the park, unique in the world, built above the tree-lined Renaissance walls of the historic city of art, in the heart of Tuscany.

With 10 exhibitions and thematic exhibitions, 14 events and workshops dedicated to children, over 30 meetings including conferences with experts and editorial newsguided tours, live demonstrations and workshops with the protagonists of Italian and international greenery are added, as well as the possibility of visiting the magnificent Botanical Garden of Lucca, which is over 200 years old.

The theme chosen this year is Up – A look towards the sky: this is how Murabilia puts it at the centre of attention the importance of trees and tree species on all possible levels: from the knowledge of individual species to treatment, to the discovery of the warning signals that are given to us regarding environmental problems that are more felt today than ever. In fact, trees and plants in general are true sentinels on issues such as environmental safety and soil stability, to the point of having fundamental importance even in urban settings, due to their ability to mitigate increasingly extreme climatic conditions.

In this perspective of discovering the green world, the following stand out: international guests who bring their most recent experiences to the Murabilia public: Bleddyn is Sue Winn-Jonestrue botanical explorers who for over 30 years have transformed their Crug Farm Plants in a rare species nursery. Fresh from an exploration trip to Columbia, they will be able to enchant us with a reportage that combines experience, new discoveries and a love for greenery that goes beyond the limits of the “known” world. The Crugs are a presence dear to Murabilia, always present, they are considered by all as “a piece of the history of plants in England, and therefore in the world, for the introduction of species bordering on the unthinkable”.

The flower chosen to represent this edition is the daliaone of the most beloved plants by Italians that has never known a decline in popularity and from a complement to the vegetable garden when ours was a country with a predominantly rural economy, it has become the protagonist of gardens for its flowering that lasts from summer until the arrival of the cold. The selection makes such a large number of varieties available on the market today that it is impossible not to find the perfect one for your garden. Stefano Magi of the Le Rose nursery in Florence will set up the rich dedicated exhibition.
