In December, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Lombardy Region President Attilio Fontana signed the Agreement for Development and Cohesion, freeing up €1.2 billion in funds. The goal is to strengthen infrastructure and transportation, promote innovation in universities and research, and redevelop territories with urban regeneration projects.

“We invest 1.2 billion in this territory,” declared Giorgia Meloni, adding that, including local, regional, national co-financing and private investments, the overall sum will exceed almost “1.86 billion euros”.

“Almost 2 billion invested in this territory, concentrated on a few priorities,” underlined the prime minister.

The funds will finance 13 main projects. Of these, 228 million will be allocated to the purchase of new trains, with particular attention to the energy transition: 68 million will be used to purchase hydrogen trains, a choice that, according to the prime minister, “looks to the future”.

A major urban redevelopment initiative calls for nearly half a million euros to renovate Cadorna station.

Furthermore, the modernization of Palazzo Sistema is planned, which will host the headquarters of the regional authorities, further redefining the Milanese skyline.

Another 26.6 million will finance the Bosco della Musica, the new campus of the Verdi Conservatory of Milan in the Rogoredo district, an area known as the Drug Grove which the Prime Minister hopes will become “the grove of music”.

Education is also an important focus: 142 million euros will be allocated to the creation of a new campus of the University of Milan, while the Bovisa campus will receive an additional 60 million.

In Pavia, 5 million will be invested to regenerate the Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences Center.
