some banknotes near the charred van

The loot from the Mondialpol robbery in Sassari would be more than 10 million euros. The money was in the counting room and not in the vault as initially hypothesized: the armed bandits would not have been able to access the vault due to the security measures taken shortly after their entry.

The exact amount of loot taken away on Friday evening by the robbers who attacked the Mondialpol headquarters on the outskirts of Sassari will be known today, although for the moment the estimated amount stolen is over 10 million. The investigators of the Flying Squad and the heads of the security institute are completing the count. According to what has emerged, most of the money taken by the robbers was outside the vault, which the robbers would not have been able to reach thanks to the security measures put in place as soon as the alarm was raised. The money was in fact in the counting room, where deliveries were being prepared for the following days and where the day’s collections were located.

Some 50 and 100 euro banknotes were found yesterday next to the van used by the armed commando to carry away the loot and set on fire during the night between Saturday and Sunday under an overpass on state road 131, on the outskirts of Sassari. The bandits had cut the roof of the van to load the bags with the money taken away by Mondialpol more quickly. The vehicle was seized by the Prosecutor’s Office and transported to a warehouse where it was analyzed by the experts of the forensic police.

However, there is still no news on the armed commando who carried out the robbery. It is assumed that the plan was studied for a long time, perhaps for years, before being implemented by the robbers. The hunt continues for the 20 criminals who attacked Mondialpol and then fled south. The searches are continuing throughout the central north of the island.

Armed attack in Sassari, loot of several million euros, pensions are safe

According to what has been reconstructed so far, the commando would have blocked all access routes to the robbery site. 20 entered the premises armed with Kalashnikovs and fired wildly, but it is assumed that the gang of criminals was much larger. In fact, outside the premises that were attacked, there would have been other bandits waiting for bags of money to load onto the van. To escape, the commando set fire to several cars in the nearby streets and sprinkled some streets with nails to cause chaos.
