Scanzano Jonico celebrates 50 years of administrative autonomy

This year marks the 50th year of administrative autonomy of the youngest municipality in Basilicata. In 1974, Scanzano Jonico elected its first citizen in the person of Nicola Suriano. On the occasion of Scanzano Jonico’s autonomy from Montalbano Jonico, the former mayors, months ago, decided to organize a committee aimed at celebrating the history of the Municipality through a series of initiatives. On July 1, starting at 8:00 p.m., in the courtyard of the Palazzo Baronale, certificates of recognition will be delivered to the 113 elected administrators, councilors and municipal councilors, from 1974 to today, as well as to the families of those who are no longer with us. The future of every community, in fact, cannot ignore the knowledge of the past. This is the message that the committee of former mayors and the current administration intend to remind citizens. The evening will be enlivened by the notes of the Miglionte Clarinet Quartet of the Fabrizio De Andrè Comprehensive Institute of Scanzano Jonico, presented by the journalist Mary Padula.

The Committee of former mayors is composed of:

– Nicola Suriano, honorary president;

– Mario Altieri, president;

– Pasquale Cariello, vice president and current mayor;

– Antonio Gallitelli, secretary and treasurer;

– Vittorio Condinanzi, Filippo Mele and Raffaello Ripoli councilors.
