Two high-tension tests for what happened at the mossa deliver a big unknown on tonight’s Palio, complicating the picture of a Carriera not easily decipherable. If yesterday morning the mossa had ended up in the crosshairs of criticism, because the Bruco was decidedly distant from the verrocchino at the moment of lowering the rope, yesterday evening the incident at the Nicchio with the daredevil Akida created moments of apprehension.
A fall, that of Turbine, with a particular dynamic. Nicchio had dropped from fourth place, practically ending up at the fence. When Bruco entered, still in quick times and with a good alignment (switches of place aside), Civetta, Valdimontone and Leocorno were the first to flank. But Nicchio ended up ruinously on the ground, with the rope remaining taut in front of Akida’s legs, perhaps also because it was stepped on by some horses.
Turbine fell, dragging all the harnesses with him and Akida began his solitary race, risking a collision with Lupa at the first San Martino and then taking the lead without rivals. Already on the second lap, the Barbaresco dei Pispini tried to stop him and on the third lap, even the captain Marco Bruni got off the stage to try to intervene in some way.
Then, fortunately, after the spring some contradaioli managed to stop the race of the young horse that this evening will celebrate its debut in a Career.
The test, for the record, was won by Nicchio himself, although this is certainly the last note especially on such a complicated evening.
The fourth test, in the morning, was experienced in particular on that very sui generis start time, taken very well by Pantera, who shot to the head and was followed by Valdimontone and Civetta. The winner was then Nicchio: it should be noted, after the slip in the third test, that Tamurè immediately engaged Criptha at Casato.
The dress rehearsal was preceded as usual by the exciting performance of the carabinieri on horseback, with the salute to the stage by the Contrade children and the honors to the city, before the gallop charge.
