Shed on fire: 40 families evacuated as a precaution

REGGIO CALABRIA, 30 JUNE 2024 – A large fire broke out today around 12:10 in a warehouse located in via Spirito Santo, in the southern area of the metropolitan city. The structure, approximately 200 square meters, was used as a storage area for electrical materials and had a metal load-bearing structure, walls in insulated panels and a sheet metal roof.

The fire required a massive intervention by the Fire Brigade of the Reggio Calabria Command, supported by the teams of the Villa San Giovanni and Melito detachments. In total, nine vehicles and 25 personnel were used to put out the flames. The operation involved the use of water tankers, a self-protecting vehicle and the rescue officer to coordinate the operations.

The flames completely engulfed the warehouse, causing the structural collapse of the building. The fire generated high temperatures and thick smoke, which damaged the external facades of some adjacent buildings. For this reason, the precautionary evacuation of approximately 40 families living nearby was necessary.

Despite the seriousness of the accident, the intervention of the Fire Brigade was effective in containing the fire, preventing the flames from spreading to nearby homes. Currently, the situation is under control and teams are busy extinguishing the last outbreaks and making the site safe. Fortunately, no injuries were reported to any person.

The causes of the fire are still under investigation, and at the moment no hypothesis has been excluded.
