The new Cappuccini park was inaugurated this morning, Saturday 29 June. With the Mayor and the municipal administration, there were Lt. Marco Toro, commander of the Operational and Radiomobile Nucleus of Teramo, the commander of the Carabinieri of Montorio, Mar. Maurizio D’Evangelista, Don Elio, the director of the ASL of Teramo Maurizio Di Giosia, the former mayors of Montorio Ugo Nori and Dino De Dominicis, several administrators of the territory, numerous entrepreneurs from Montorio and families with children.

This is an urban regeneration project with a total value of approximately 725 thousand euros over an area of 6 thousand square meters. In addition to the large green park – with 44 new tall trees, including 12 fruit trees, and 210 rose bushes, thyme, lavender, sage and other varieties – there is a sports area with a colorful basketball playground and a five-a-side football pitch and a refreshment point that will be operational in the coming weeks. The maintenance of the greenery will be sponsored by Delfino Sport.
Much attention was also paid to the quality of street furniture, with benches, waste bins, public water fountains, and draining pavements.
“It is a great emotion to be here today – commented the mayor Fabio Altitonante -. This camp has been a place of socialization and fun for many generations and is now coming back to life. I myself came here with the boy scouts: it is important to recreate spaces for young people to gather together to support them in growing and creating healthy friendships, within an increasingly complex society where youth hardship increasingly leads to dramatic events such as that of Pescara.
I am proud because today’s inauguration is the third dedicated to children carried out by this Administration: we remember the playground in Largo Runcini and, last week, the playground at the Bivio di Collevecchio”.
The mayor also announced an inclusion project that will involve the “grandparents” of Montorie.
The inauguration was also an opportunity to reward the “old glories” of Montorie football, with personalized t-shirts delivered to the protagonists themselves and to the families of those who are no longer here.
Finally, the mayor thanked all the workers who carried out the work for the ICPP company of Porcinari, the designers Ettore Celli and Ottenio Monaco, the municipal offices and in particular the Technical Area with the manager, Eng. Marchetti.
“A great team effort has been done and we have won a new challenge, redeveloping an area abandoned for decades. In these 4 years of administration we have solved many problems accumulated over the years. In the coming months we expect other inaugurations of important interventions for Montorio.
Next challenge: obtaining the 4 million euro loan to renovate the former Capuchin convent, which a few months ago, at the request of the Municipality, obtained the cultural interest restriction from the Ministry of Culture, a necessary condition for financing the restoration” .
