Reggio Calabria, Confesercenti replies to the Municipality

“I think it’s correct to answer considerations of thecouncilor Marisa Lanucara regarding my latest Press release. I consider the response necessary for a series of reasons: the first is because I appreciate your commitment, I have always had a constructive relationship with you and I recognize without any hesitation the effort you make on a daily basis to resolve the large and small problems that you have to face as a councillor. . The second because, obviously, this statement represents the administration’s position and not its personal one, the third because from your writing it is clear that, probably due to my responsibility in relation to the clarity of the concepts that I intended to express, it was not well understood what I meant”. Thus the President of Confesercenti Claudio Aloisio rejoinder to Councilor Lanucara, who in turn had responded to his initial outburst.

“So I will try to explain myself better. Four months after the announcement of the Rianayr flights, there has been no action on the part of the municipal or metropolitan administration aimed at comparing it with the territory to understand, from a strategic point of view, how to enhance the arrival of tourists in Reggio. I do not mean meetings to which the councilor refers on specific topics but, as should be normal, the creation of a discussion table where we can think about the complex needs of governing tourist flows which certainly do not stop at territorial animation”.

“I would therefore like to understand what constructive attitude you would have expected but above all in what context should this attitude have taken place? In an informal meeting over a coffee? A walk on the Corso? No, dear councilor, that is not what I mean when I talk about confrontation between the political and social parties. There are ways, times and contexts that, specifically, simply have not existed and still do not exist.”

“The facts speak”

“As far as we are concerned, therefore, on our being constructive and operational the facts speak which as such are stubborn. As Confesercenti Reggio Calabria with our funds we created a tourist reception web app supported thanks to the trust of dozens and dozens of companies who believed in this idea and this philosophy of approach, with important partnerships such as the one with the National Museum and the Strait Airport and the participation of companies among the most representative of the city and metropolitan entrepreneurial fabric. So I would be curious to understand how we should be more “profuse with initiatives serving the tourism sector” unless we think that it is associations like ours that have to do the work that falls within the competence of the bodies whose aim is to govern the territory” .

“Being in the resolution phase by June 26th is out of time”

“However, I have to agree with the councilor on one thing, in my reasoning I list as expressed by you “open issues but in the process of being resolved” (but contrary to what you say I don’t limit myself to this). The problem is that being in the “resolution phase” on June 26th I consider it a little out of time but maybe I’m wrong. As for the kiosks it is true, as the councilor states, that we had a calm and constructive discussion regarding the opening of the only kiosk not under tender, our member, who, as he knows well and certainly through no fault of his own, had to wait much longer than necessary to be able open without prejudice to his personal commitment to try to resolve the inherent problems. Said this arriving close to the summer without having yet awarded the other three, I don’t consider it a great result. Even the tender for the management of the cabins of the municipal lido, although published, does not appear to me to have been assigned yet and here too, the vagueness that we are a little behind stings me”.

“In any tourist location, the summer programming is organized and advertised months in advance”

“As far as the scheduled events I have never said that there is nothing but that today there isn’t a shred of program. At the risk of being repetitive, I remind myself that it is June 26th and that in any place that wants to be defined as tourist, the summer programming is organized and advertised months in advance and not close to or practically at the beginning of the season”.

“Let’s talk about the “Meeting on Tourism in the Strait” which, out of love for my country, I had not wanted to mention in my statement. A meeting in which there are a certain number of buyers from all over the world who should meet the tourist companies in the Messina and Reggio area. Bearing in mind that obviously a meeting of this kind is not structured in relation to this tourist season, how was it organised? With what logic? With what strategy? With what involvement of the representative parties of tourism businesses (Associations, Chamber of Commerce and others)? Unless we want to define “involvement” as a call made practically one day after the other, close to the start of the meeting, it is not clear what usefulness it would be given that everything had already been established”.

English: “As for the communications and marketing initiatives carried out in the past, I don’t see what they have to do with the reasoning in question except to underline that my communications and marketing agency, by participating in and winning public tenders, has worked and if there are other opportunities will work with this administration as well as with any other that submits tenders to Mepa. As everyone who knows me knows, I completely separate my political role from my professional one. So, yes, I have worked for the bodies to which I am making some remarks today in relation to an approach that in my opinion is wrong in the tourism sector and if there are other opportunities I will continue to work with the utmost professionalism and dedication as I have always done. This certainly doesn’t embarrass me and I don’t see why it should. At the same time, if there is the need, I will continue to present my considerations as president of one of the most prestigious and representative trade associations without any qualms of any kind because the only objective I have always set myself is that of the interest of the community and the development and growth of my territory”.

“Finally, we welcome the Councilor’s advice on what Confesercenti should do regarding activities with traders and entrepreneurs and we will certainly take them into consideration as, we are equally sure, that the Lanucara councilor and the municipal administration will take taking our observations into consideration.”
