Bari, professor threatened by the mother of a failing student

A professor of a scientific high school in a municipality in the province of Bari was allegedly verbally attacked and threatened by a mother after her son failed. The case was reported by the Snals-Confsal Puglia union which collected the teacher’s complaint as part of the memorandum of understanding signed on 18 June with the Gens Nova association to combat the phenomenon of physical and verbal violence against school staff .

The episode, according to the union, occurred on June 14 when the mathematics and physics teacher, coordinator of a first class, allegedly called the parents of a student by phone for “important communications”. At the meeting, the parents were reportedly informed of the failure, but the boy’s mother did not take it well and made threatening remarks to intimidate the teacher: “It doesn’t end here, you don’t know what awaits you,” the parent allegedly said, according to the union. The episode allegedly occurred in front of several witnesses.

“One week after signing the protocol we have already received a request for help from a teacher. It doesn’t surprise me,” commented Vito Masciale, regional secretary of the union. “I know how urgent it was to prepare a tool to deal with the episodes that, unfortunately, occur in the area. Puglia is one of the most affected regions,” he adds. The victim will decide within 90 days whether to file a complaint.
