A tourist infrastructure that it is a driving force for development for the territory, that allows us to dictate new strategies, to enhance places with a unique landscape and environmental heritage, activating those economies that act as an impetus for a reversal of the current process of depopulation of the territory”. Thus in a joint note the two Mayors of the Municipalities of Laganadi And CalannaMichele Spadaro and Domenico Romeo respectively, on the DIP (design guidance document) approved by the respective Municipal Councils for the construction of a Tibetan bridge that will connect the two Municipalities.

The project named “BRIDGE OVER THE MEDITERRANEAN CALA1000”which sees Laganadi as the leader, will be achievable thanks to the CIS (Institutional Development Contracts) Calabria “Svelare Bellezza” for a total amount of approximately 2.5 million euros. There length of the bridge is of 1,000 mit probably is one of the longest bridges in the worldwith a maximum depth of 150 meters (the existing ones are between 500 and 700 metres, at the moment the record is held by Castelsaraceno, one of the most evocative villages in Basilicata) and should take approximately two years to complete .

Contiguous to each other and with homogeneous characteristics, the two Municipalities have shared an aggregative path with a view to common growth that can trigger socio-economic and cultural development of the same areas with the vision of carving out spaces to be valorised, cared for and preserved for the wider public use serving a large area.

An extraordinary engineering feat which will develop over two areas: one in the municipality of Laganadi, precisely on a ridge in the Petile plains, accessible from the provincial road; the other in the municipality of Calanna on a promontory east of the municipal reservoir which is accessed from the Ronzo road which connects the municipal cemetery and the reservoir area. The two areas will be connected by the suspended bridge and will be equipped with structures to be used for various activities as well as recreational play areas equipped to attract families and give users the opportunity to spend a day enjoying sports, food and wine moments and entertainment, immersing themselves in an environmental context that casts your gaze from Aspromonte to the sea.

The first citizens, Spadaro and Romeo, are certain that the construction of the bridge will be a source of pride not only for the Reggio area but for the entire Calabria region. Between breathtaking views and unexplored natural glimpses, it will be the perfect destination for a true full immersion in nature: “Thanks to the Calabria Region – the mayors conclude – for the attention paid to our small municipalities as bearers of opportunities”.
