Yesterday evening, with the opening ceremony, the III Viareggio-Bastia-Viareggio – Angelo Moratti Trophy 2024 officially got underway, the sailing event between Sustainability and Innovation scheduled until Friday 28 June and organized by the Club Nautico Versilia with the Municipality of Viareggio and Navigo, under the aegis of the Fiv, the patronage of the Tuscany Region, the Municipalities of Viareggio and Bastia, the Navy and the Marevivo Association, the collaboration with UVAI and the support of the Port Authority of Viareggio.
The 2024 edition is supported by the Major Partners Next Yacht Group -Azimut Capital Management/Investimenti and AB Yachts Maiora- and Gruppo Frati, by Public Main Partners Municipality of Viareggio, iCARE and Viareggio Porto 2020, by the partners Axa Assicurazioni Agenzie di Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi and Pisa, Cantieri Codecasa, Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca, Galliano, Vannucci Piante, by the Green Partner Corepla and by the technical partner Eurven.
After the welcome speeches by the President of the Versilia Nautical Club, Roberto Brunetti, by the Councilor for Tourism and Economic Development of the Municipality of Viareggio Alessandro Meciani, by the Commander of the Port Authority of Viareggio Silvia Brini, by the Provincial Commander GdF of Lucca Colonel Marco Querqui, the President of iCare Viareggio Porto 2020 Moreno Pagnini, the Delegate of Tuscany Marevivo Marina Gridelli, the President II of the Fiv Zone Andrea Leonardi, the Area Manager of Tuscany of Azimut Capital Management Marco Magi, and the Director of Navigo Pietro Angelini, the ceremony The opening included a very welcome surprise: from the terrace of the Club Nautico, the soprano Katerina Kotsou and the tenor Davide Piaggio, accompanied on the piano by Emanuele De Filippis, performed some evocative arias by Puccini. After the flag raising (Event Flag) from the CNV signal pole, the evening ended with the Welcome cocktail & DJ Set.
Today, however, at 2 pm, after the Skipper Briefing (11.30 am) at the Club Nautico Versilia, the regatta will finally get underway which will see some of the protagonists of the 2024 racing season: among them the 100′ ARCA SGR with Furio Benussi and the Fast and Furio Sailing Team, the Vismara MOMI 80 of AngeloMario Moratti and Nicola Minardi who with Filippo Terzani and the Club Nautico Versilia has decided to revive the VBV , the GS 56′ Axa Paolisssima of the CNV owners Luca Poli and Paola Poggi which with its AXA Agencies is also a Partner of the event, the 50′ K9 of the owner Gianluca Giurlani, the Swan 45 Thetis of Luca Locatelli, the XP 44 Orizzonte of the CNV member Paolo Bertazzoni – entered in the double handed category and helmed by Fabrizio Marianelli with bowman Giorgio Iacconi -, and the flagship of the Guardia di Finanza sailing fleet Grifone III. Also very welcome was the presence of the 63′ Catamaran Elianto which (as part of the ONDA project – Sailing Opportunities for Different Abilities – created thanks to the contributions of Tuscan banking foundations -) has a mixed crew on board (normally and differently abled motor and cognitive) who, after a series of training navigations, will try their hand at a sailing competition for the first time. On board Elianto Fondazione Mare Oltre onlus, Cetus research, Habilia, Mare Vivo and Astrolabio while in the crew the marine biologist/commander Silvio Nuti for CETUS/Fmoonlus, Soriano Ceccanti wheelchair sailor for Habilia, Mare Vivo, Angela Manzani, Vito Verna and five kids with different cognitive abilities for Astrolabe.
The Race Committee will be composed of the President Riccardo Incerti Vecchi with the 1st Member Alessandra Virdis, Matteo Chimenti, Ubaldo Sgherri, Alessandro Beppi and Jacopo Morelli.
“CWe are expecting a wonderful challenge at sea that will be faced by everyone with the utmost commitment and in complete safety considering that at night we need to pay even more attention.- explained Sports Director Muzio Scacciati who is following every single detail of this event –Each crew will be able to choose the best route, also based on the length of their boat and the decisions of the helmsman and tactician. Furthermore, thanks to the rating compensation, it is not obvious that a larger boat is more advantaged than a smaller one. We must then pay maximum attention to obstacles on the route, such as the regasification ship 12 miles from the coast between Pisa and Livorno – which cannot be approached between two and four miles, under penalty of stopping the boat for checks – and the luminous buoy placed before the port of Bastia, where the Magim boat of our partner Roberto Fini is there to take passages. The arrival is expected in front of the port of Viareggio: 40 hours the maximum time available.”

Meanwhile, while waiting to celebrate the 2024 winners, at the Regatta Village in front of the Club Nautico Versilia, the intense program of collateral initiatives open to all those who want to be protagonists of one of the most glamorous events of the Viareggio summer will continue until Friday 28th .
This afternoon (4-6 pm) attention will be catalyzed by the workshop “La Robotica Marina” organized by Navigo and the Robotics Festival. A cocktail will be held at 6.30pm.
The “La Robotica Marina” workshop will continue (10am-12.30pm) also tomorrow morning Thursday 27 June, awaiting the arrival of the boats, while in the afternoon two unmissable meetings are scheduled: the first (6.30pm) on “Sustainable Finance” edited by Azimut Investimenti with the participation of Marevivo and to follow, Rosalba Giugni, President and Founder of Marevivo, will tell her story and that of Marevivo, in an interview with Fabio Pozzo. In the evening the Azimut Investimenti Cocktail.
And finally, in the late afternoon of Friday 28th (6.30 pm) the President of Sanlorenzo SpA, Massimo Perotti, interviewed by Fabio Pozzo, will talk about Innovation and Sustainability in the world of Nautical. The evocative Gala Dinner on the quay in front of the Nautical Club and the Awards Ceremony will conclude the evening and this 2024 edition.
