An “autumnal” day, that of Sunday 23 June, welcomed in Brinzio the competitors of 2nd “Whale Trophy“, a foot race also valid for the Golden Foot in which the main route was 8 kilometers (3 for the shortened route, 600 meters for the mini-lap under 10).
At the start of the race organized at Brinzio Cross Country Center (with Pro Loco and Sci Nordico Varese) yes presented in 300 (140 those registered for the Golden Foot) under one drizzle and low temperaturesdespite the summer that has just begun.
At the end of the 8 kilometres, it was Triumphant Simone Marcolli of Varese Athletics which closed with the time of 28.46 winning a PdO race for the sixth time this season. Behind him they then placed themselves on the podium Luca Ponti (Athletics 3V) in 30.29 e Fernando Coltro (Runners Valbossa) in 31.20 followed by Simone Carlo Prina (Arsaghese, 31.40) e Francesco Piccinelli (Verbano, 32.18).
Also there women’s ranking saw a local athlete excel on the podium, Ilaria Bianchi of the Recastello Radici Group, winner with a time of 34.44. The Valbossa Runners pairing made up of Martina Menegotto and Sofia Barbetta reached the podium (38.01 and 38.09) preceding that of the Varese Runners who placed fourth Paola Turriziani (38.38) and fifth Sabrina Gussoni (38.43). This is also the sixth victory for Bianchi in 2024.
The Brinzio race was drawn on a 70% dirt road of the total and brought runners in climb up to Motta Rossathen returning from woods until you get to pond involved in a legend that tells of the vision of a whale, the one that gives its name to the trophy.
Before the summer break the Golden Foot competitors still have two races to face: the next one is on 7 July in Arcisate, the 37th “Quatar Pass par Arcisà” at Lagozza Park, organized by Atletica Arcisate. Then, seven days later, appointment at Villadosia of Casale Litta.
