CALENZANO (FI) – “My victory is influenced by local issues: we are for a limited use of the “land resource”, while the outgoing administration had made an Operational Plan with new buildings which we contested. Also relevant is the fact that the outgoing council marked a distance with the citizens and lacked listening which was punished. But there is also a more general meaning: centre-left administrations that have distinguished themselves not by carrying forward the values and challenges that are proclaimed but then disavowed” and thethe affirmation of “alternatives that are not right-wing but within the values of the anti-fascist and progressive left”.
So at Novaradio this morning Giuseppe Carovani, “again” mayor of Calenzano: former first citizen from 1999 to 2009 at the head of a PD-led coalition, yesterday he wore the tricolor sash again after winning victory against his old party and its candidate Maria Arena, leading a left-wing alliance (Left for Calenzano , For my city, democratic Calenzano): already leading the first round with 41% and 6 points ahead, it increased its tally by 150 votes in the second round, while the other challenger lost almost 1,000, with a final result of over 64%.
Among the priorities indicated by the mayor, the rearrangement of the road system in relation to the works on the A1 motorway junction, and the revision of some projects of past administrations through a renewed dialogue with citizens: July will be dedicated to a series of discussion meetings with citizenship. As a first act, instead, a symbolic provision: “We will restore free school books for primary schools and a safeguard variant that will remove from development the areas for which we fought”.
