It’s the day of the transport strike in Monza and Milan. For 24 hours there is a risk of chaos for ATM vehicles and Net buses in Monza and Brianza. Buses, metro and coaches may stop and be delayed. The agitation was called by the Al Cobas union. This is the third strike in the space of two months: tram drivers and drivers are ready to give up their daily wages to assert their demands.
Atm, through a note, announces the times of the strike which, as usual, will have guarantee bands. The unrest “could have consequences on our lines from 8.45am to 3pm and after 6pm, until the end of the service”.
The times of the strike in Monza
For NET lines, the strike could cause disruption during the following time slots:
- Monza city buses from 9am to 11.50am and from 2.50pm to the end of service
- extra-urban from 8.45am to 3pm and from 6pm to the end of service.
Why workers go on strike
The agitation of 26 June was called, once again, against “the liberalisation, privatization and tenders currently managed by the ATM group and for the ‘reinternalisation’ of public transport services under contract and sub-contracting, against the ‘Milano Next’ project ‘, for the transformation of Atm SpA into a special company of the municipality of Milan and the consequent direct in-house assignment of the services, as well as for their being free”, we read in a note from Al Cobas.
Also on the table are the salary issue and contract requests. “Holiday use for traveling staff, company hiring plans and transformation of part-time contracts”, as well as an “increase of 150 euros net for all workers, to recover the insufficient increases in national contracts”.
Also at the center is the safety of ATM workers, a sore point in particular for those who drive vehicles and have long asked for protections such as cabins. In the union’s note we read the request for “reactivation of the distancing between drivers and users with inhibition of the front door for passengers boarding and alighting”, and also “cleaning, sanitizing and sanitizing of cars and environments” and “protection of safety of workers most exposed to aggressive acts, even with passive protection systems”.
