“In the Municipality I play the most important match”

A past as a footballer. The passion for politics, as strong as that for football. The appointment as councilor of Gianni Giambi, 55 years old, married with two children, surprised many, even in the Democratic Party. But in reality, when Filippo Sacchetti, after winning the elections, began to think about the junta, one of the first names he thought of was Giambi himself.

You are the only one among the councilors who had not run for council. Did Sacchetti’s choice take you by surprise, or did you imagine that the call would come?

“Obviously, I didn’t have any certainties. But I’ve known Filippo Sacchetti for a long time, there is mutual respect and I strongly supported him in the election campaign, even if I didn’t run for city councilor.”

The mayor has entrusted her with responsibilities for the budget, taxes, Pnrr and European funds. Did your long experience as a bank manager influence this choice?

“I think so. Filippo has definitely chosen the department that best suits my characteristics. I have been working at Banca Malatestiana since 1991, and have been the director of the Santarcangelo branch for years.”

Do you already have the first moves in mind for the next budget?

“Little by little (laughs). They’ve been hectic days, I haven’t thought about anything yet, except how to reorganize my life given the commitment I’ve been called to. There will certainly be a lot of work to do, and we’re leaving with great enthusiasm” .

In Santarcangelo many also know her for her football past. She played until she was forty.

“Football is my great passion. I grew up in the Santarcangelo youth team and then I landed in the first team. We were a good team, and many of us went on to make careers later (like Marco Semprini, who became general secretary of Atalanta, ed. ). I played for several clubs, and then I was also a coach.”

Are you still training?

“No, I stopped a few years ago, although I naturally continue to follow football. Thus I began to dedicate more time to active politics. I have always been a member of the Democratic Party, and before that I was in the Margherita”.

In addition it will also bring the voice of the residents of the hamlet of San Vito…

“I am proud to be a Sanvitese doc. Just like my cousin, Roberto Moretti (the late former councilor and assessor, who died in 2020), who was a great example for me”.
