Florence, woman found dead at home: her 17-year-old nephew confesses

The 17-year-old who was arrested in Florence for the death of his grandmother, a 65-year-old Peruvian nurse found lifeless yesterday in her apartment in via Niccolò da Tolentino, in the Careggi district, confessed. The boy was suspected of voluntary homicide and, after being interviewed at the police station in Florence for over an hour yesterday afternoon, he confessed to having killed his grandmother by strangling her.

Motive linked to disagreements

It was the same 17-year-old who raised the alarm, alerting a neighbor and stating that, upon his return to the house where he lived with his grandmother, he found a man with whom he allegedly had a fight. For this reason the boy, immediately after the arrival of help, was taken to the Careggi emergency room for checks. He was subsequently taken to the police station to be interviewed by the police who then arrested him. During the interrogation the boy admitted to the prosecutor of the minors’ prosecutor Giuseppina Mione that he had acted due to constant disagreements with his grandmother, with whom the young man had lived since he arrived in Florence. The victim, according to the boy’s story, wanted him to start working. According to what emerges from the investigations, the 17-year-old strangled his grandmother with his bare hands. The bruises on the young man’s face would be traces of the woman’s attempt to defend herself.
