Indicate the number of wild boars killed in the provinces of Parma and Piacenza, considering the increase in cases of African swine fever since March 1st and the expansion of the restriction zones. Councilor Emiliano Occhi of the League asked this in a question.

«On March 1, 2024, the wild boar depopulation plan envisaged in order to combat the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the territory of the Province of Parma was adopted in Parma. A plan whose initial aim was to achieve 200% depopulation compared to previous years – explains Occhi -. Considering that approximately 16 weeks have passed since March 1, 2024, the number of wild boars killed in the province of Parma according to the depopulation plan should be approximately 5,152″.

The council’s response is entrusted to councilor Igor Taruffi: «From March 1st to around mid-June, the activities in the province of Piacenza led to the collection of 183 animals, while in the province of Parma the animals taken were a total of 350. The trend has seen an increase in numbers compared to previous years, particularly in control activity, which can be estimated at around 20%. A meeting with the Provinces and the provincial police is scheduled in the next few days to monitor the situation and adopt everything possible to make the action even more effective.”

This is Occhi’s reply: «The numbers are significantly lower than those envisaged in the Plan, even if we are aware that these are too high requests. It is important to keep our attention high, because to date the Plan has not been completely completed, and to encourage better coordination between the territory, the local police and the hunting world. We have also asked that an explanatory circular be drawn up for the commissioner’s order.”
