CATANZARO The mobility application Uber, present in over 10 thousand cities around the world, officially arrives in Calabria. From today, in fact, it will be possible to use the Uber Black and Uber Van mobility services in the Region, in airports, and in the main tourist areas. A first fleet of cars will be active immediately, which will be gradually increased in the coming weeks and months with new vehicles and new drivers. Therefore, the famous black sedans of Uber Black and the more spacious Uber Van will be active in Calabria, both operated by Calabrian car owners and holders of NCC (rental with driver) authorisations. The start of the Uber service in Calabria was sealed by the President of the Region Roberto Occhiuto and the company’s GM for Italy, Lorenzo Pireddu.

“Today is a very important day for Calabria. I have been working for several months to achieve this goal: Uber’s arrival in our Region is a further possibility to attract tourism and develop our territory”, he commented the president of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto. “As early as this summer, thanks to the new air routes to our airports, they will arrive in Calabria hundreds of thousands more tourists than in previous years. It is our duty to guarantee them adequate internal mobility to the extraordinary potential of the Region. And for this reason we want many NCC cars in the cities and places of greatest tourist interest which, thanks to the Uber application, can be immediately bookable by users present in Calabria. It is the beginning of a new path in which we firmly believe.” “The arrival of Uber in Calabria shows in fact our intention to invest in a Region with important growth prospects especially in tourism and new technologies, as demonstrated by the successful case of the University of Calabria on Artificial Intelligence, attracting young people and scholars from all over the world,” he commented Lorenzo Pireddu, general manager of Uber Italia. “Today’s launch is just a first step towards increasingly efficient mobility in the Region and citizen-friendly, thanks to innovative mobility services. Today’s announcement confirms our commitment to offering industry workers new job opportunities through our app.” Uber’s arrival in Calabria offers an additional mobility option for both domestic and international users and arrives just in time for the tourist season. Thanks also to the new air routes recently introduced, the Region will attract numerous tourists, both Italian and foreign, who will thus be able to take advantage of an already familiar mobility service. With more than 150 million active users worldwide, the Uber app brings value to the region’s entire transportation system.
Uber Black: characteristics of the service
Service Uber Black and Uber Van (the second with cars capable of accommodating up to 6 passengers) are operated by NCC operators and users of the Uber app benefit from various features, such as the possibility of having information on the driver, the model of the car and knowing the price of the trip in advance, dividing the cost of the trip, viewing the route of one’s journey and, thanks to the anonymisation system, passengers and drivers can contact by phone or chat without sharing your phone number, as well as the ability to access Uber’s safety toolkit and get assistance if you need it. ORIn addition to the comfort and elegance of black sedans, Uber Black provides passengers with the ability to select their preferences in advance regarding the luggage to carry on board, the methods of conversation with the driver and the temperature inside the vehicle. Finally, further features such as Guest Ride have recently been added to the service, i.e. the possibility of booking a car for an acquaintance, relative or friend.
