A thematic square with debates and regional associations that will discuss issues related to discrimination against homosexual, bisexual and transgender people. This is “Piazza Pride”, the initiative scheduled for Sunday 7 July starting from 6.30 pm in Benevento, in the setting of Piazza Roma.

The aim is to create a moment of awareness on the rights of the LGBT+ community and to discuss their state of the art. The list of local organizing organizations is rich: confederal unions, ANPI, Libera, Exit Strategy, Civico 22, Democratic Party, 5 Star Movement, Open City, Young Democrats, Cusas, ESN, Demmis, Cellula Coscioni Benevento, Arci, Culture and Readings. There will be three themes on which the debates will unfold: same-sex families, outing and coming out, discrimination against LGBT+ people. Among the guests who will animate the discussion there will be associations such as Arcigay, Apple Pie, ‘Cca nisciun’ è fessa and people who have been dealing with these issues for years such as the journalist Francesco Lepore, the psychiatrist and university professor Paolo Valerio, Giuseppina La Delfa, long-time president of Famiglie Arcobaleno.

At the end of the debates in the evening there will be a musical moment with live and music selection by Nemesisterica and Antoa Supertramp.

The initiative, which arrives a week after the regional Pride in Naples and the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, a turning point in the history of the LGBT+ movement, was born from an appeal launched by the Anpi section of Benevento and which attracted the support of other local realities. In recent months the government has dealt a series of blows that have caused a frightening reverse in terms of rights in our country, such as the proposed law establishing the universal crime of pregnancy for others, the stop to the registration of the children of couples homosexuals born abroad, abstaining from signing the EU proposal on LGBT+ rights and, last in chronological order, the about-face on the matter in the G7 final document.

The values of anti-fascism today cannot fail to make the battle for the vindication of the rights of every minority their own, with the awareness that it is from these moments of confrontation in the square that the energy to build a common resistance is born.
