He was transferred to a healthcare facility in Puglia Monsignor Vincenzo Calvosa. The bishop of the Diocese of Vallo on Saturday evening injured while playing a match between priests and volunteers organized for the inauguration of theCarlo Acutis oratory.
It will have to be subjected to a delicate patellar tendon surgery. The accident occurred on the eve of his first anniversary at the helm of the Cilento diocese. Calvosa arrived in Vallo on 24 June last year. In the same hours yesterday morning he instead had to travel aboard an ambulance from the Misericordia di Vallo to reach Puglia.
Immediately after the accident he was helped by the orthopedic mayor Antonio Sansone and his colleague Antonio Di Leo who decided to transfer him to hospital. Already in the evening Monsignor Calvosa left the hospital and immediately had himself taken back to the oratory by ambulance to reassure the many present who, in the heat of the match, had seen him leave the pitch on a stretcher. At San Luca he underwent medical tests which confirmed the need for surgery.
An unexpected epilogue to what was supposed to be a moment of celebration for the community. A few minutes after the case of Bishop Calvosa he was transferred by ambulance toSan Luca hospital also the healthcare worker Acangelo Paolino, head nurse of the emergency room, too on the pitch for the match. She had just requested the change when the request for intervention arrived for a child in the audience who had felt ill. Paolino did not hesitate to run but felt a strong pain and reported the rupture of the Achilles tendon.
