“PIA II”, the governor of the Marche Region, Francesco Acquaroli, guarantees the plan and summons both the coordinator, Professor Floriano Bonifazi, and the mayor of the capital, Daniele Silvetti. Bonifazi’s renunciation of the role, still formally undefined, as external consultant for the Ancona pollution control plan shocked Acquaroli. Despite the unscheduled event, the mayor of Ancona is calm: “Nothing serious, we will sort everything out – said Silvetti – This morning (yesterday, ed.) we met and discussed with Bonifazi and together with him we planned the guidelines to follow. It is everything is ready, we were waiting for the right moment after the council act approved on May 16th”. Yesterday morning, after reading the statements of the former head of allergology on Carlino, the president called the two to Palazzo Raffaello. A three-way summit lasting more than two hours and tense, characterized by a strong clarification from the institutions on the guidelines to be followed in the environmental field. The underlying question is always the same, namely the importance or otherwise of carrying forward the two PIA projects, municipal and regional, together and inseparably.

The political differences on the measures to be adopted based on the second step of the PIA remain, but in the meantime Acquaroli, who has guaranteed the continuation of the project, has taken control of the matter. The Municipality has invested 200 thousand euros for the three-year period 2024-2026 on PIA II. As they say in jargon, this time ‘the mountain did not produce a mouse’, given that at the end of yesterday morning’s meeting the parties agreed to schedule the press conference for the following day, this afternoon to be precise PIA II officially comes to life. The press conference that had been expected since May 16th, after the council meeting which had effectively ratified the control room and outlined the guidelines of the plan. All that was missing was the formalization of Bonifazi’s assignment, which however had been slow to arrive for over a month and a half.

Today, therefore, the Region and the Municipality will reveal the cards on the table, but it is not certain that the game is destined to end here. Much will depend on how we actually decide to intervene on environmental issues and here, especially at the municipal council level, there are some thorns in the side. Differences amplified by last Thursday’s fire at Baraccola. Bonifazi was very upset at not having been involved in the municipal intervention team after the fire that broke out inside DS Smith Recycling: “We would certainly have involved Professor Bonifazi once we had the air data in hand after the emissions produced by the fire – is Silvetti’s response – Data that between today and tomorrow (yesterday and today, ed.) the Arpam should communicate to us and immediately afterwards we would take stock of the situation together. I make the concerns that arose after that evening’s episode my own. a fact that we immediately paid attention to and will continue to follow. I am an expert and before defining actions, I would like to hear from Arpam, the regional environmental agency that deals with these things”.

For now, therefore, the budget investment of 200 thousand euros by the Municipality remains in force, but it will be necessary to wait for the application of the various operational phases.
