The interventions on the itraffic light system between Via dell’Airport and Via Trincea delle Frasche, started by Engie for extraordinary maintenance interventions, lasted only a few hours. AND’ in fact, the new intelligent traffic light has been activated, an advanced solution designed to improve the efficiency and safety of road traffic.
The system is equipped with an electronic device equipped with radar for monitoring the flow of vehicles, allowing the traffic density to be estimated in different time slots. Consequently, during periods of maximum attendance, the traffic lights will facilitate passage with more green time in favor of the most clogged roads.
For pedestrians, a countdown light signal has also been inserted which will facilitate passage.
The system will be digitally managed by a new traffic light switchboard interfaced with a remote management platform for real-time monitoring of the entire system, which includes a complete redesign of the traffic light signaling lines to improve signal times.
In a few days, the traffic lights will be equipped with count downs and RSL (Red Safe Light) lanterns to control pedestrian red lights on the road, which will allow pedestrians to see better when to pass safely, interrupting the vehicular flow.

A solution that we have been waiting for for some time and which will allow for more dynamic and responsive management of road conditions.” declared the Councilor for Public Works, Giovanna Onorati, underlining that Fiumicino will be one of the first Italian municipalities and the first in the Lazo area to install an innovative product such as the Red Safe Light.
