(LaPresse) Great euphoria, accompanied by applause and roars of joy, in the headquarters of the electoral committee of the candidate for mayor of Florence Sara Funaro. The data on the outcome of the ballot, in fact, show her with a clear advantage over Eike Schmidt, candidate with the centre-right. She will be the first woman in Florentine history to lead Palazzo Vecchio. «I’m a little excited, I say it sincerely. I feel the great emotion of all these months, of being the first citizen of Florence. It was a very long and beautiful marathon”, declared the PD candidate of the centre-left coalition. «I want to dedicate this victory to a person who is no longer with us: Piero Bargellini, my grandfather, who repeated this phrase to me: I made so many declarations of love in Florence that in the end I married her. Here, I want to say that from today I too am marrying this city”, concluded Sara Funaro, remembering her grandfather, former mayor of Florence.
