Syensqo TAR appeal against external remediation order at Polo Chimico

ALESSANDRIA – A move announced already last May 4th and which became official on Friday. The multinational Syensqo he resorted to Regional Administrative Court of Piedmont to ask for itcancellation of the Ordinance for the reclamation and environmental restoration of the areas outside the Spinetta chemical complex promulgated by Province of Alexandria.

At the beginning of May Syensqo disputed the fact that the contamination of “groundwater” comes from “any responsibility to Solvay”, rejecting “the equality between Edison and Solvay/Syensqo with regard to the responsibilities for the pollution of the aquifer due to a presumed ineffectiveness of the hydraulic barrier, an ineffectiveness that he finds denied in the same administrative reclamation process”.

According to Solvay/Syensqo, the hydraulic barrier created has obtained a “real cleanup of historical pollution“, in the light of “thousands of analyzes and checks collected periodically for over 12 years by the bodies and by Solvay/Syensqo” which “have ascertained for a long time now, as recognized by ARPA itself, the clear and continuous decrease in the groundwater of the concentrations of all contaminants which have fallen to the lowest historical values ever recorded. In particular, hexavalent chromium in groundwater outside the site has fallen to record lows on record, with a reduction in average concentration of over 60%; chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and other chlorinated solvents have dropped by more than 90%.”
