Raffaele Ascenzi’s encouragement to the collaborator suffering from multiple sclerosis

VITERBO – The faith and strength that Santa Rosa manages to instill in the people of Viterbo is palpable in many everyday stories.

One of these is precisely in the story of Antonella Servi, one of the collaborators of the architect Raffaele Ascenzi together with Luca Occhialini who, a few days ago, published a post on the evil that struck her some time before the proclamation of the winning project.

“It may seem strange but the first fear I had when I received the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis was that I wouldn’t be able to be ‘up and about’ to witness the making of Dies. It was June 19th, just four days before we had delivered the project and immediately afterwards I went for the first MRI, without having any idea of what would then happen. The idea of victory was still far away and also that we would follow its realization, but in that moment I told myself that I would have to do everything to feel good and enjoy this adventure. That day it was as if my life had been divided into two: pre-diagnosis and post-diagnosis. Looking at my sculpture and thinking that when we did that scan I still didn’t know anything about it gives me shivers. A year has passed, I have learned to become familiar with the disease and live it more calmly. I’m lucky because it doesn’t seem to be an aggressive form, I’m lucky because today there are drugs that seem to be able to ‘keep it at bay’, and above all I’m lucky because after a year I can publish a photo while I help bring the creature to life by Raffaele Ascenzi.

Raffaele Ascenzi’s reply was not long in coming: “your strength is the greatest resource of our group. I would like to add other words but I believe that the loudest cry is the explosive silence of your work which day after day comes to life more and more. I loved every moment spent with you Antonella, Luca and our Dies”.
