The city of Monza is preparing to celebrate the Patron Saint, Saint John, on June 24th with a series of ceremonies, guided tours and extraordinary openings that will involve all citizens. A unique opportunity to rediscover the cultural, historical and landscape heritage of the city.

Ceremonies and honors

Holy Mass and Golden Johns
The day will begin at 10.30am with Holy Mass in the Cathedral. Following this, at 12.00, under the porticoes of the Arengario in Piazza Roma, the traditional ceremony of awarding the city’s merits will be held, the Giovannini d’Oro. This year, the honor will be awarded to: Gianni Pelli (to memory), Fulvia Antonia Tiziani (to memory), Monsignor Silvano Provasi, Alexander Colombo

The prestigious Corona Ferrea award will be awarded to Abio Brianza on the occasion of the 40th year of foundation.

Civic Museums and Villa Reale

Guided tours and extraordinary openings
Patron Saint’s Day will also be an opportunity to explore the cultural treasures of Monza. The Civic Museums will be open from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00. At 3.30pm, the guided tour “On the trail of Saint John” will illustrate the works preserved in the museum that tell the story of the saint’s life, ending in Piazza del Duomo. Royal Villa
On the occasion of the holiday, the spaces of the Villa Reale will be open to the public. Visitors will be able to explore twenty-eight rooms rich in history and contemporary art of the “Contemporary Palace” project. Furthermore, it will be possible to visit the traveling exhibition “The Traveling Palace” at the Saletta Reale of the Monza and Milan train stations and the Royal Palace of Milan.

A Day of Celebration and Reflection

Mayor Paolo Pilotto declared: “The city is preparing to celebrate the patron saint with numerous moments of meeting and sharing, which will enhance not only the memory of the figure of the Patron Saint but also the beauty and richness of the historical and artistic heritage that the city is able to offer.”
