Chiari (Brescia), 23 June 2024 – It was expected, and the scenario promptly occurred. Of the 144 Municipalities in the province of Brescia went to the vote last June 8-9only in Chiari the mayor has not yet been elected. None of the five candidates in the running won in the first round and there will therefore be a run-off.
Turnout
TO Chiari aAt 11pm on Sunday the turnout stood at 44.06%, down compared to the first round. At 7pm turnout was 37.10%, at 12pm turnout was 15.3%.
The two mayoral candidates
This weekend, they will face each other Gabriele Zotti, candidate of the centre-right coalition, outgoing minority councillor, supported by Fratelli d’Italia, Lega and Civica with Zotti bringing together Unione di centro, Forza Italia and Lombardia Ideale: he was chosen by 34.51% of voters. And then on the pitch there is Domenico Codoni, outgoing councillor, supported by the ‘Chiari virtuous’ and ‘Chiari capital’ lists, chosen by 28.67% of voters. However, there were two potential challengers. Marco Salogni was left with a bitter taste, who by an incredible coincidence had totaled 2727 votes, exactly the same ones that went to Codoni.
An incredible draw, which requested additional work from the electoral commission, but which in the end rewarded Codoni. Article 72 of the electoral regulations provides that in the event of an equal number of votes between candidates, the candidate linked to the list or number of lists that achieved the highest overall electoral figure will be admitted to the ballot. In this specific case, the lists supporting Codoni totaled 2553 votes, those of Salogni 2518, therefore excluded by a narrow margin. The ball now goes back to the citizenscalled to vote again.
