Director Luca Guadagnino honored at the 60th edition of the Pesaro International Film Festival.
Luca Guadagninowas the great guest on the last day of the 60th edition of the Pesaro International New Cinema Exhibition where he received the Pesaro Nuovo Cinema 60 Award – and dedicated it to the actress Francesca Mizzoni recently passed away – and where he participated in the presentation of the monograph dedicated to him, the first in the world, published in the series Marsilio’s Nuovocinemaedited by Simone Emiliani And Cecilia Erminiby title Specters of desire. Many topics were covered during the meeting. About his production which could be classified between fiction and non-fiction Guadagnino stated: “I have never thought about this very rigid division, for me films are films, each title is a film from my filmography, I do not distinguish between films and documentaries, I understand that there are critical systematisations that must be managed, but I think that every work I have done has within it the compositional, creative and thought process implemented when making a feature film, I am interested in how truths and fictions are refracted in both film categories. Cinema is a strange mechanism where a very laborious machine that must disappear is continually put into action.”
There is also space to talk about the numerous upcoming projects, including Queerin the final mixing phase – of which he says “It’s a film I’ve wanted to make for many years and it’s my most personal film.” – and After the Hunt, whose filming is starting on July 8th which Guadagnino defines “a film with a magnificent cast (Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, Ayo Debiri, Cloe Sevigny, Michael Stuhlbarg) which is a tribute to Woody Allen’s Bergman cinema, it is a mise en abyme for three”.
