He falls during a climb on the Presanella: he dies from Piacenza

Marco Massera, the boy from Piacenza who fell while climbing with a friend on a mixed stretch of rocks and snow on the north face of the Presanella, along the Via Faustinelli, was 34 years old and an expert mountaineer. Trained as a biologist and agrotechnician, Massera worked in the province of Mantua but was originally from Lumoresco (Alseno). He leaves his wife.

At an altitude of 3,000 metres, one of the two slipped, dragging the other for hundreds of metres. A fatal flight for the 34 year old. His climbing partner, a 36-year-old man from Verona, was injured.

The two friends had left the car at the Pozzi Alti car park, above Vermiglio, in Val di Sole. Then, around three in the morning, they went up towards the start of the route with the aim of arriving there at dawn. The accident occurred between 6.30 and 7 am.

The lifeless body of the 34-year-old was recovered by mountain rescuers and the Guardia di Finanza. The injured man was instead transported by helicopter to the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento.
