First day of victories for the FIMBA Italia teams at the European Championships in Pesaro

The matches got off to a great start on Saturday 22nd June XII FIMBA Maxibasketball Championship in Pesaro, where many Italian teams are competing in the various men’s and women’s categories. Today 4 of our 7 teams took to the field and achieved important victories.

Ours is a true “dream team”. Over 40: problem-free match with Great Britain. Coach Luca Granchi’s boys win 105 to 40, with a team performance that bodes well for more challenging matches. From the 1st quarter our team annihilates their opponents with a peremptory 26-2. Lestini scored 21 points, with Benzoni at 14 and Carrizo 13. David Moss was very present in defence, scoring 9 points in 17′. Next match for the Over 40s on Sunday at 5.30pm with Slovenia.

There Over 60 FIMBA Italy beat their peers Austria 90 to 33, leaving no respite for their opponents. A peremptory 27-2 in the 2nd quarter defined the outcome of the match. Coach Benatti had excellent contributions from Tamburrino (18), Stama (17) and Tirel (11). Next opponent Lithuania tomorrow, Sunday, at 2pm.

There Over 65 by coach Tassone easily beat Austria Over 65 70-17. The opponents were not very athletic, and so Colucci (13), Bianco (12) and Musmeci (9), in excellent form, soon spread.
Tomorrow our Over 65 team will rest, waiting to face Croatia on Monday at 2.00 pm.

Also large Over 75 of the mixed FIMBA team with Slovenia: they win 35-34 with the USA East Bank Ambassadors of the same age. The advantage materializes in the 1st quarter 13-4, and our team is then good at containing the Americans’ comebacks. Butala scores 14 of 35 points and Augusto D’Amico 3.
Next match for our Over 75s on Sunday at 10.30am with Germany.
