Thousands march for the Pride parade

The Pride parade brought the colors and slogans of those fighting for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community back to the historic center of La Spezia. According to the organizers, there were five thousand people making up the snake, while there were just over three thousand according to the police who accompanied them along the entire route, from Piazza Brin to Viale Mazzini.
But the usual diatribe on the number of participants does not change the gist of the matter: the third edition of the parade was also perfectly successful and introduced the latest events scheduled at the village set up at the Pin in the best possible way.

During the procession, organized by Raot, CGIL, Arci and Spezia for Palestine, the union’s provincial secretary, Luca Comiti, spoke: “Last May 17th the Meloni government decided not to sign the declaration for the promotion of European policies to favor of the LGBTQIA+ communities put forward by the Belgian rotating presidency of the EU Council and signed by 18 out of 27 member countries. And in the last G7 Meloni forced the reference to the right to abortion and the passage on the defense of identity to be removed from the final document gender and the LGBTQIA+ community. Serious and wrong choices and in perfect continuity with the attacks on trans people and homo-parental families, which aim to deprive girls and boys of their rights, as well as threatening the abolition of civil unions. In this way, the fascist and reactionary right are carrying out yet another harsh attack on people’s rights in every area of their lives. An attack that we must counter and stop. Joining, participating and supporting Pride is a moment for us to closely connect personal rights with social rights. For this reason, during today’s La Spezia Pride it is possible to sign in support of the four referendums promoted by the CGIL for stable, safe, protected and dignified work at the stands specially set up for the collection of subscriptions here during the concentration for the demonstration”.

“Today we took part in a parade at La Spezia at Pride together with many and many militants of the Democratic Party of La Spezia, alongside the many organizing associations starting with Raot La Spezia, the CGIL, the Arci to defend the rights of all everyone, both those who are being questioned today due to a specific political will of the Meloni government and this right, and those who must not be taken for granted. We defend the rights of everyone”, added Iacopo Montefiori, provincial secretary of the Democratic Party, in a note.
