Yesterday the food collection organized by the Diocesan Caritas of Forlì-Bertinoro took place on the occasion of the start of the International Camp of Peace. Twelve boys from Lebanon, accompanied by some Italian boys together with five white helmet girls from Caritas Ambrosiana and four boys from the Civil Service of the Diocesan Caritas, went to four Conad supermarkets in Forlì (Stadium, Ronco, Bengasi and Ravaldino) where they the food collection is carried out to support the families served by the Solidarity Emporium. The children of Camp Shalom, a service camp created in collaboration with the Committee to fight world hunger, also participated in the collection.
Throughout the day the kids welcomed the supermarket customers with a smile, handing over the collection flyers and a shopping bag to be able to divide the shopping comfortably. Once the customers left the store they collected the donated foods and divided them by type. . Thanks to these guys and above all thanks to the help of the people who chose to dedicate some of their time to help us and the people we serve, throughout the collection we managed to collect over 140 boxes of various foods: in particular for breakfast, legumes and baby food.
This result will allow us to continue our service at the Solidarity Emporium, the main Sign Opera of the Diocesan Caritas of Forlì-Bertinoro, which in 2023 provided food support to 580 families for a total of over 2,100 beneficiaries. In addition to helping local families in difficulty, the Emporium wants to promote the culture of sharing with particular attention to the goods of the earth, aiming to prevent and reduce food waste.
The international Camp of Peace, a project of the Diocesan Caritas, will end on June 29th and aims to provide an opportunity for young people from different countries to experience coexistence based on service and mutual cultural exchange, offering an open look at the issues of globality and peace.
