in Lombardy we go back to the polls in thirteen municipalities (including Cremona)

Thirteen Lombardy municipalities return to the voteSunday 23 and Monday 24 June, to elect the mayor and the city council. These are Cremona and thirteen centers with populations exceeding 15 thousand inhabitants, where the run-off is being held, because in the first round none of the candidates exceeded 50 percent of the preferences. The first round of voting was held on 8 and 9 June: 960 municipalities were involved. The 945 elected mayors are already at work. Instead, in two small municipalities the elections failed and the administration will be entrusted to a prefectural commissioner.

The elections failed in San Daniele Po, in the Cremonese area, where, after the retirement of the mayor Davide Persico, who had already been in office for 15 years, no list was presented and in Binago, in the Comasco area, where the abstentionist party won. There was only one candidate, Alfredo Garavaglia and the law requires that, in these cases, the mayor is elected if the turnout reaches a quorum of 40 percent of those entitled to vote. And instead only 29 percent went to the polls.

Thirteen municipalities are therefore voting. Among these is the capital of Cremona. Alessandro Portresani, standard bearer of the centre-right, who in the first round received 43.1 percent of the preferences and Andrea Virgilio, outgoing deputy mayor who achieved 41.9, aspire to the tricolor band. In the Milanese area, second round a Cusano Milanino, Lainate, Novate Milanese, Paderno Dugnano, Peschiera Borromeo, Settimo Milanese, Trezzano sul Naviglio. In the Varese area people vote in Malnate and Samarate, then in Romano di Lombardia (Bergamo) and Chiari (Brescia). Voting takes place on Sunday from 7am to 11pm and on Monday from 7am to 3pm.
