On charges of sexual assault, a 47-year-old was arrested by the railway police in Trinitapoli, in the north of Bari. According to what has been ascertained by the investigations, in the late evening of May 28th, on board a train, he approached a 45-year-old woman who was traveling alone and, taking advantage of the fact that there were few passengers in the train, he seriously harassed her.
The investigation, coordinated by the Trani Prosecutor’s Office, was kicked off by the complaint from the victim who told what he had experienced. The man, who would have been stalking her, sat behind the woman and would have first touched her hips, pretending he had happened almost by mistake, and then the violence would have taken place.
Immediately afterwards the train stopped, the 45-year-old got off, seeking help from the conductor, but in the meantime the 47-year-old had managed to escape. The woman formalized the complaint and the so-called red code was triggered: thanks to photographic recognition, video surveillance images of the station, and knowledge of the area, the railway police officers managed to find the man in a short time, in a house in Trinitapoli. The 47-year-old, originally from Togo and irregular, already known for similar crimes, was arrested on charges of sexual assault and taken to Lucera prison.
