PORTOGRUARO, VENICE – A tragic event shocked the north-east this morning along the railway line Venice-Trieste. At around 7.30am, a body was found on the tracks between the stations Portogruaro And Latisanacausing disruption to rail traffic in both directions and significant inconvenience to commuters.
Details of the accident
According to initial reconstructions, the victim was fatally hit by a regional train while he was sitting on the tracks. The Portogruaro Railway Police and the 118 rescuers intervened quickly, but were unable to do anything other than confirm the death of the person. The accident involved the regional train FR 9712, which departed from Central Trieste and headed to Turin Porta Nuova.
Impact on traffic and alternative solutions
Following the accident, train services on the route were immediately suspended. Trenitalia has activated an assistance service to manage passengers and direct them to alternative trains. Travelers were redirected to train FR 9467, which departed from Venice Mestre at 8:34 and arrived at Rome Termini to 12:00.
Investigations underway
The authorities are conducting further investigations to clarify the circumstances of the accident and identify the victim. The Venice-Trieste line, one of the busiest in north-eastern Italy, suffered serious disruption due to this tragedy, impacting commuters and regular travellers.
