NEWS ONLINE, Healthcare » Assisted Medical Procreation, the Foggia Polyclinic is the only third level center in Puglia

The Accreditation and Quality Service of the Puglia Region has authorized the Departmental Structure of Reproductive Physiopathology and Assisted Medical Procreation of the Foggia Polyclinic, directed by Professor Maria Matteo, to carry out second and third level PMA activities.

The recognition of the requirements, with Resolution number 279 of 10 June, allows the Departmental Structure, already authorized for first level activities, to provide – the only center in Puglia – the entire range of Assisted Medical Procreation techniques, up to the most high technology: IVF, ICSI, testicular aspiration and extraction of spermatozoa by needle aspiration, biopsy and microsurgical testicular sampling in azoospermic patients. Furthermore, the gamete bank, already present and operating for the cryopreservation of seminal fluid, will also be able to carry out the freezing of oocytes and ovarian tissue, giving men and women the opportunity to preserve their fertility in all conditions of risk and in particular in patients in whom an oncological pathology has been diagnosed.

“The start of activities – explains the general director Giuseppe Pasqualone – is expected after the summer and will be communicated with all the information on access methods. In the Foggia Polyclinic we will have a structure capable of offering complex diagnostic therapeutic pathways and allowing the couple to be taken care of in a global way, thanks to the presence of a multidisciplinary team. It is – continues Pasqualone – a great team effort that involved the Heritage, the Technical Area, the Personnel Office for the recruitment of professionals with the necessary skills for a third level center and the Health Promotion Department of the Puglia Region which quickly carried out the investigation to obtain authorization for the operation. Special thanks go to Professor Matteo who coordinated all the activities that led to this important result.”

The Departmental Structure of Reproductive Physiopathology and PMA makes use of the constant and essential collaboration of the Simple Departmental Structure of Andrology, directed by Professor Carlo Bettocchi, which will contribute to the provision of PMA techniques and in particular of the third level ones, allowing a synchronized and integrated care path for men and women.
The collaboration with the Complex Structure of University Endocrinology, directed by Professor Olga Lamacchia, for the treatment of systemic endocrine disorders related to infertility is also important and already operational.
